Conversion of Brass Collar Studs from Screw Machine to Cold Headed for the Trucking Industry

In addition to producing custom cold headed fasteners and parts for customers in various industries, at The Fastron Co. we also redesign production processes to convert machined production to the cost saving and highly efficient cold headed process. In the project highlighted here, a customer in the trucking industry contracted us to re-engineer the process to produce their double ended round flange collar studs. Designing for form, fit, and functionality, our experts successfully completed the conversion, and began the manufacturing of the part utilizing state of the art cold heading machinery. Brass material was manipulated to reach the specified finished dimensions of 3.000" in length and 0.849" in diameter, holding the tightest tolerance of ±.002" throughout. Additional thread rolling was performed at the proper pitch, and the part was finished with a plating and bright dip process.
As with all of the products fabricated in our ISO 9001:2008 certified facility, the collar studs were constructed upholding the highest industry standards, and fully tested with dimensional and visual inspection methods.
